Personal websites & curiosities of the web
Here is a list of (personal) websites that I like, made me reflect on something, taught me something... or is just super pretty !
- Mx Tynehorne’s cabinet of hypertext curiosities - a really nice linkroll and one of my first (re)entry into the world wide web. Lots of interesting and weird websites.
- The Small Way - kind of a manifesto for a smaller web (meaning having your own little place on the web to express yourself and share instead of using big corporations social medias).
- Make a wish page manifesto - why and how make a wishlist. I think it's important. I already had a wishlist on a wishlist website, but after reading this manifesto I started making my own wishlist here on this website. It's quite obviously more meant for my friends and it's in french.
Politics & society
Ecology
Those talk about ecology and nature. How to fight climate change, protect the living, stop polluting...
- Whole Earth Catalog - a former american counterculture magazine about ecology, self-sufficiency, alternative education, diy... The whole catalog is free for all, for educational & research purpose.
- Low Tech Lab - a wiki and catalog of low techs from all around the world !
Feminism & queerness
Ressources that made me rethink society, relationship, gender, sexuality and many other things.
- No Web Wihtout Women - innovations in computer science and technology made by women !
- Drip App - an open-source and privacy friendly (all data stored locally on your phone instead of clouds) menstrual tracker. Available on Apple Store, Google Play Store, F-Droid AND just the apk to download directly on your phone.
- The Feminist Lecture Program - "A UNIVERSITY LEVEL GENDER STUDIES PROGRAM ACCESSIBLE TO ALL", feminist lectures available for a reasonable price (pay what you can) or for rent. Very diverse topics. I really wish I could listen to them all and support this with money.
Anticapitalism
I'm an anticapitalist. I believe we shouldn't pay for basic rights and needs and I
know that capitalism is destroying our planet and lives.
- Let's Crush Capitalism - a website about how do capitalism works and about how to destroy it and its alternatives.
Antifascism
If you happen to not see/know that fascism is growing stronger and stronger in these years : it's time to open your eyes and learn to recognize fascism and fight it, or else we'll go back right back to the 1920's and the World War II.
- Fight Fascism - a little page about fighting fascism, with a few ressources and badges to put on your website. With an excellent quote from Philosophy Tube : « If you're a fascist and anti-fascists come for you, you have a choice, you can give it up. (...) But if you're a person of color, if you're trans, or a person with a disability, or gay, or Jewish, and fascists come for you, there is nothing you can do that will make them happy, except stop existing. »
Art & Crafts
Webcomics !
The few webcomics that I follow and read ♥
- Les Normaux - a comic about supernatural people in Paris living their lives. Absolutly queer and lovely ! They are my absolute fav and rebooted in late 2022 for THE BEST !! Artstyle and story improved a lot. Recommend a lot. Physical comic available for pre-orders right here and in multiple languages (TBA) ! (June 2024)
- Sleepless Domain - a magical girl comic set in a city where monsters invade it each night and the magical girls have to fight them. Also pretty queer.
- Batman : Wayne Family Adventure - Batfmily slice of life. I love Batfamily. Way better than just Batman.
- CosmoKnights - Queer space fantasy that I started but didn't follow.
the comic is being released physically in France soon, so I'll get back to it !! Bought it, read it, loved it ! I also have the second volume ready to be read but no time yet to do so. Now that it's summer (june 2024) and university is finished, I'll go back to it. Sapphic a lot !
Everything I like to use on a computer and recommand ! I use Mozilla Firefox as browser, and my PC is currently on Windows 10, but I'm planning to install a dual-boot for a Linux distribution soon. /!\
I highly recommend to NOT buy/install Windows 11 on your computer !! W11 has a functionnality that enables to spy on your computer, like, really, record your screen etc... so that means your data like private conversations, confidentials/official papers you read on it, passwords etc... could be leaked if someone breaks into Windows' clouds (which has already happened in the past, so be weary).
I also recommend using uBlock Origin (first on this list) to use many other websites and tools I listed, as some of them do have pop-up ads/spams, but with uBlock Origin work just fine :)
- uBlock Origin - the best add-on in the whole wide world : the best adblocker. Life-changing. If you still surf on the web without an adblocker : I don't know how you do it, because so many ads everywhere is really awful and tiring. Change your life and get a clearer, decluttered and less frustrating web experience. You may need to change your browser for Mozilla Firefox, because Google and Apple don't like this add-on and are trying to get rid of it :D
- Sci-hub - A tool to find articles that are locked behind a paywall. Really useful for students and researchers. Against knowledge gatekeeping. Free knowledge for all ! (Reminder that researchers don't get the money you spend on paywalls. It's only the private company who gets the money. You can also directly ask the researcher for their paper.)
- Emoji Add-on - It allows you to search for emojis in your browser and copy/paste them in one click. Useful for websites that don't have an emoji icon.
- YouTube to Mp3/Mp4 Downloader - To download your fave songs/videos and watch them offline/on your mp3 player/your phone. For maximum efficiency and best audio quality, I usually search for the official audio from the band/artist. You can find them by typing something like "artist - topic name of song" in Youtube. This shows the official audio (there's only the album cover as video, nothing else) and not the video clip/visualiser/lyric video versions. The official audio allows the converter to put the actual and correct metadata of the song, so your player will then be able to sort them out properly.
- Cobalt Tools - An even better audio/image/video downloader, focused on privacy. Works not only for YouTube but for other video platforms as well. Fast and easy, recommend a lot.

Languages
I'm a student in italian culture & language, I love languages and I've been trying to learn japanese on my own for years (without much success due to my own inexistant autodiscipline). I've collected a few nice websites about these topics.
https://www.kanjistudyapp.com/index.html
- 🇯🇵 Kanji Study App - the best app I've found. A japanese dictionnary & kanji learning tool. I've learnt a lot thanks to it ! If you have money please donate, it's really worth it. No ads and the free version is more than enough. You can pay for nice add-ons to the app.
- Omniglot - the online encyclopedia of writing systems & languages
- Radiooooo - A website that lets you discover songs from all around the world from the last century.
- Jade's Hub - Collection of language ressources !
